Moor macaque – Macaca maura

The moor macaque is a macaque with brown-black fur body with a pale rump patch and pink bare skin on the rump.

This species of macaque lives in Indonesia on the island of Sulawesi.

The moor macaque is sometimes called “dog-ape” because of its dog-like muzzle, although it is no more closely related to apes than any other old world monkey is.

The moor macaque is endangered and there is around 1000 specimens still alive in Sulawesi.
